Some governments and institutions—and even some individuals—want to keep certain topics, such as religion, off limits. In many places, discussions and questions about these topics are discouraged, even punished. But how can we come to our own conclusions about an issue if we can't freely examine and discuss it? To encourage free expression and to celebrate Blasphemy Day 2009 (September 30), join CFI-NYC as we join the Drinking Skeptically crew for a night of fellowship, discussion, and yes, drinking. On hand will be the Ben Radford-created board game "Playing Gods."
Blasphemy Day 2009 is part of The Campaign for Free Expression, a joint initiative between the Center for Inquiry and the Council for Secular Humanism to focus attention on one of the most crucial components of freethought: the right of individuals to express their viewpoints, opinions, and beliefs about all subjects—including religion.
Drinking Skeptically, organized by the New York City Skeptics, is an informal event designed to promote fellowship and networking among skeptics, critical-thinkers, and other like-minded individuals. Drinking Skeptically provides an opportunity for skeptics to talk, share ideas (and drink) in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. We discuss the issues of the day and whatever else is on our minds. But most of all, we have fun while promoting skepticism, science, and rationality.
